Beatin' the heat

Last week as temperature indexes were hitting the 100 mark, we decided to keep our cool by heading to the local splash pad.
M was fearless and ran right into the spray.

She really loves the splash pad and seemed to remember it from last summer.

Hope you're keepin' cool where you are!

Need an accountant???

We had a garage sale at my mom and dad's house a couple of weeks ago. These are pics of M doing her accounting after the sale finished.
She would count the bills and then record a "number" on her "ledger".

Above is how we kept records during the sale.
Below are M's records. My niece, A2, did the name in the middle of the page, but M put in the lines and wrote all the "figures" all by herself.

Not bad for a 3 year old, huh?

Wings and Wheels

On Sunday, we went to a plane and car show at a local airport. The weather was great and the admission was FREE! Doesn't get much better then that!
I don't think I'd want to fly in this one. It says "Experimental"!
Watching a take-off

Taking a free ride!

Here is the 1928 Model T Ford that we took our ride in. M thought the bumpy ride in the backseat was great!

Checking out one of the cars.

They were giving rides on this old plane. It didn't even look like it would fly, but it did. We saw it take off and land again.

Helicopter taking off

M and Baba holding on to their hats, that helicopter is really kicking up a wind!

Here is one pic from our FFC summer picnic on Saturday. It was at a park and the weather was dreadful, rainy, cold and windy about 60 degrees. I have very few pics because as soon as we got there Baba took off in the car with everything in it to buy himself a jacket due to the cold and he didn't come back for an hour. When he did get back he was wearing the shirt below, which for those of you who know him will understand that this purchase was most definately a NEED, not a want. Anyway even though M was full of goose bumps with chattering teeth most of the time, she made the most of the picnic fun. She enjoyed the clown, made a necklace, took a hike with Baba, ate a full plate of food and roasted marshmellows. She was a little bummed about not getting to play at the park's splash pad, but really ended up enjoying herself anyway.

A Star is Born

M made her stage debut last week during a parent viewing of her season finale pre-dance class.
She was thrilled to wear real MAKE-UP and have her hair done in a special, "dancing hair-do".

Warming up

M is a natural born performer. When the children enter the room, they are to choose a blue dot to sit on. M, smart little cookie that she is, chose the one smack dab in front of her mama. She wanted me to have the best possible view of her performance. Nai Nai and Ye Ye were also on hand for the event. Baba was out of town:(. I had Ye Ye ready with the video camera and I was posed with my still camera when the teacher announced we could only photograph and video during certain parts of the class. I was a bit dismayed, especially for Baba, as he was counting on seeing the video. M, the stickler that she is, saw me lift my camera after the teacher's announcement and loudly said, "No pictures, Mama!" For the record, I wasn't going to take a picture, I was simply checking the light. Anyway the following 2 shots were taken when I WAS allowed to take pictures.
Each girl did a solo across the floor consisting of runs, plaits and curtsys. As soon as M started her run, she flashed me this great smile as if on cue.

This one was taken during her class routine set to the music of Mickey* Mouse* Club*.

M did an amazing job and really enjoyed going to class each week. We will definately be pickng this up again in the fall. When she finished her performance and was dismissed, she ran over to me and said, "M go sit down Chinese restaurant now?" Apparently the promise of food overshadowed any need for praise of her performance! We did walk over to the restaurant and enjoyed a great dinner with Nai Nai and Ye Ye.

Happy Birthday Lao Lao!!!!!

We celebrated Lao Lao's birthday at the lake.
M was more than happy to help blow out the candles.

Shadow takes a dip. He is not the best swimmer. He has something wrong with his hind legs and he has had to be rescued before. This time when we were leaving for the lake, M cried when we said Shadow was going. She wanted him to stay home so he would not drown.

Baba and M with a wayward turtle that he found way up on the hill away from the lake. M got to observe the turtle for a few days and then we had a releasing ceremony.

Free again! Stay in the lake this time little buddy!
